Witherbys leads the way in digitisation as 5,000 ships access online marine library, Witherby Connect

Thursday, September 1, 2022

Maritime publishing and digitisation experts Witherbys has announced their eReader software Witherby Connect is now being used on board 5,000 ships.

Launched in 2021, Witherby Connect is a browser-based hybrid software, meaning it runs in a web browser yet behaves like desktop software. It enables mariners anywhere in the world to access a library of publications and guidance, delivering more flexibility and security for those working at sea.

For 20 years Witherbys has produced and protected over 700,000 digital books for the industry. Witherby Connect is the successor of the previous windows eBook platforms and resolves the problem of limited onboard connectivity and meets all the latest guidance on cyber security.

Chief Executive of Witherbys, Iain Macneil, said, ‘I am delighted that Witherby Connect is now being used on 5,000 ships. Our development team worked hard to create a product that is a genuine solution to issues faced by mariners, such as cyber security worries or poor internet connection. The feedback from users has been tremendous.’

Witherby Connect is also the technical solution chosen by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for their digital eBook platform, IMO Bookshelf.
