Built as one of the world’s largest ocean going salvage vessels and having since served as an oceanographic research vessel, SEA RANGER, has the key attributes that Witherbys were looking for in their next Explorer/Research Vessel.

Currently undergoing reactivation and refit works while stress testing all of the equipment onboard, and prior to properly entering into service in 2026, SEA RANGER is a unique vessel.

SEA RANGER will be fully utilised to support Witherbys with its many technical and operational marine activities, including the development of new passage planning guides and the review of existing guides all over the world. This work will be in addition to providing facility for extensive research on emerging security, MARPOL/environmental and energy efficiency solutions for shipping. All research will be conducted with the goal of continuous improvement of shipboard systems and reporting, using and building further on Witherbys' substantial knowledge and experience for the benefit of the shipping industry.
